ROT while sleeping

As much as I hate to put this out there because ROT sucks.... Expected: Rot will lose -1 con consistently whether asleep or not. Result: Never lost con over 25 hour duration if I was sleeping, awake it was pretty consistent. I was able to survive Rot with very low con by just sleeping it off. Steps to reproduce: 1) Get Rot - YUCK 2) Stay awake - Lose con 3) Sleep - Dont lose con 4) wake up - Lose con 5) sleep for the last 8+ hours of Rot and not lose any more con. Please please please, say this is by design. I hate Rot.
