I agree with you, and a look at the code shows that was probably the intent.
So here's the new deal:
They will not attack your groupmates
They will not attack your cabalmates
They will not attack other pets you created in any way
They will not attack other pets of your cabalmates created in any way
They will not attack other pets of your groupmates created in any way
