Fiending song isn't heard at all by some people...

I don't know if its something to do with the fact that these people had some mental saves, but singing the fiending song they'd not even react at all. Normally I get a message saying 'so and so saw right through your illusion.' But with some I've just been getting -blank-. Seems a bit odd to me. By design or not?
