There is an object that gives a limited trance ability.
However, my mana regen seems worse with it on than without. Is this because my trance skill is so low, or a bug?

The effect will not be that large, and there's a lot of things that could be influencing that rate which may be throwing you off.

Might as well post who I am. If you want a demo arranged in game or want me to clarify the specific item for you, just ask.
With the amulet on, I sometimes regenerate only 5 mana per tick when sleeping (and my int is naturally maxed at 24). I am pretty sure that I never regain so little without it on. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seemed worth questioning. I've ended up not wearing it because it seems to make things worse rather than better like I was hoping, not that I have a problem with mana regen.

Feel free to pray when this happens and we can try and take a look.

I went through added in debugging code to all the spots where trance is checked and wore the amulet and it works exactly as expected (rarely giving you a bonus for having such a low trance ability). There are LOTS of factors that can lower your mana gains per tick, the amulet is likely NOT what is affecting your piss poor gains.

Could it be that this guy is confusing the ticks for the amulet of Moudrilar?
As I'm sure you're aware, but maybe he's not, when you wear the amulet...
You get a sort of pre-tick mana regen. If he's the kind of freak (like me) that sits there hitting enter a lot while sleeping, or just in general, you'll see that pre-tick regen 5-10 mana or something... Then a few seconds later the REAL tick happens.
He might be neglecting the second REAL tick and thinking that the bonus regen from the amulet WAS the entire tick indeed.
Ya.

If the item is the Amulet of Moudrilar, I was confused by it at first as well. Aside from your normal "gain tick", you also receive an additional small (5-8 points) mana/health/move boost during your turn that is not associated with the tick.

I never knew there were two chances to regain mana a tick, even with combat progging items
