deny summoning weirdness

I'm messing around in neo-Icewind Dale and put up aristaeia. It wears off. I get to the cloud giant village and request something from Versiloth. So far so good. I then try to word, and get the echo I would normally get if I were affected by deny summoning. Nothing in my affects indicates that I'm affected by deny summoning, and certainly nobody cast it on me (that I could tell). So I go back to the Fortress and get a conjurer to cast deny summoning on me, thinking that when it wears off it might remove the restriction on interdimensional travel. No suck luck. When the conjurer casts on me, he gets the echo he'd receive when if he cast on someone already denying summoning. Eventually I quit, immediately logged back on, and the problem was gone.
